Why did I pick this novel?
I picked this novel because my friend suggested it to me also the short summary made the book seem very interesting. I don’t read much because I can never find a book that’s interesting enough but this book is great and I cant wait to read more of it.
Does it meet your expectations?
Yes, it does my friends told me it was good it also looked good. I found out that it is very well worded and its funny and cute I thought the book looked and sounded ok but after the first couple of pages I figured it out and it nice.
2. What emotions did the book invoke: laughter, tears, smiles, anger? Or, was the book just boring and meaningless? Record some of your reactions.
Question 2: The thoughts it is invoking in this chapter were sadness and anger because shade was angry that the beasts and birds banished them from the light. The sadness was that shade got to her the echoes in the echo chamber and he saw a picture in his mind on what happened the day the beast and birds had a war and that the bats refused to fight so the beast and birds called them cowards and banished them from day light.
8. Is there an idea in the book that makes you stop and think, or prompts questions? Identify the idea and explain your responses.
Question 8: The book has made me stop and think about what a mother would go through for her child. Why would she risk her life and the tree haven for her son? I think its because she loves him so much and also Ariel and Shade have grown really close sense he’s a runt, because they always stuck together.

Question 13. Chapter 2 tree haven]: What happened was shade wanted to see the sun [which is forbidden]. His mom caught him and he was grounded, when he was grounded he started to think “ I am like my dad, just like every one told me. His dad always wanted to see the sun to until an owl killed him. What I was expecting to happen was the elders were going to get rid of him and give shade to the owls, but they didn’t. They gave him a punishment of being constantly watched by his mom around the Tree Haven. Shade does not like to sleep let a lone be crept up in a tree all night.
5. If you were the author, would you have changed the name of a character, or altered the location of a scene? What does the name mean to you? Do you have a negative connotation associated with the name (or the place)? What would you name the character instead? What would you use as a setting?
Question 5: If I were the author I would not change shades name because it suits his personality and the way he expresses himself. He is small but fierce, and I think shade is a perfect name also because its not to harsh of a name its not like Jack but its not like butterfly its in between which fits him just right.
4. Would you like to be one of the characters (acquire a personality trait)? Which of the characters would you become, if you could? Why? If there's something about the character that you'd want to change, what is it?
Question 4: I would like to be shade because shade is small like me but he is very strong in some ways. I would love to be a runt and have every body be like oh there small they can’t do this and I would prove them wrong. I do that every day I prove that I may be small but I’m fierce and very strong I can do anything that I put my mind to just like shade!

Or, does the book remind you of an event (or events) that happened to someone you know? Does the book remind you of what happened in another book you've read?
Question 3: this book is very touching and it does remind me of my own life. When I was in 6th grade I got token away from my mom because of the border so I know how he feels to be away from his mom. I feel like this book is kind of about my life because Bathsheba wanted to get ride of shade like the border wanted to get rid of me, and also he is very close with his mom and can’t ever imagine leaving my mom either. So I think the book has part of my life in it and I think other people would agree with me.
11. Who else should read this book? Should anyone not be encouraged to read this book? Why? Would you recommend the book to a friend or fellow classmate?
Question 11:I think my friends should read it and my mother because it is so true, it can relate to a lot of peoples lives. I know it relates to my mom life and my life. I believe that this book would teach real kids that anything can happen in life and that all the turns you make will not all be good turns. Also to remember everything happens for a reason.

Question 12: yes I would like to read more books by this author because I like he describes things and also I would like to finish his series of the bat books. There’s Silverwing, Firewing and a few others I cant remember. When Kenneth Oppel describes something he give all the information so its easy to catch on to what the bats are like and there personality’s. so yes, I would like to read more books by this author.

What questions would you like to ask the author of the book? Are they questions that you may be able to answer by reading more about the author's life and/or works?
I do have questions one of them is why did the other choose this topic for his book, does he like bats or does he want to show hardship in a bats point of view? Why in this story does it skip back and forth through characters we’ve not met yet and then finally add it all together at the end, sometimes it doesn’t make sense? Some of the answers I could get from reading the book but some I would like to ask the other!

He discussed that Toyota would consult will other experts to help the automakers on growing problems. He gives his apologies, because many people are worrying about there cars. The company said the recall could cost up to 2 billion dollars us. This could have affected my mom but she does not have a Toyota, other than that there are millions with a bad car and some where to go but can’t get there.
